How it happened!
This is how it all happened; back in 2006 four Anime lovers from different walks of life were brought together by fate, how they were brought together is equally complicated and a story for another day. Back in those days (Pre-animax era) very few watched or even knew about this genre. Sharing this connection, before they knew it they became best of friends and even more, we even had our very own place to meet and on rare occasion it was possible for all four of us to get together under same roof and watch an Anime flick while munching on cyclone burgers. Very soon we began to operate as a team and one day we decided to name our group ‘Team Otaku’ since Team is a group of people linked in a common purpose and we acted and bonded like one while helping each other out by sharing, collecting, allocating downloads. Back then we were hyped with the word Otaku and used to think it simply meant ‘Anime lovers’ in English which was us so that’s how Team Otaku came to be. Then one day, shuvra suggested we go international, while we were lucky to have each other united by fate, there maybe others like us who still thinks that he/she is the only one who watches Anime in the BD and it would be our job to reach out to them and let them know that they are not alone. With my little webpage designing skills, we put together a site and forum and advertising them on various social networks soon the forum began to gain momentum, we and the others discovered that there were more than a few Anime fans in BD as our board reached over 39000+ posts. In the forum it was decided that we have a real meeting so that we can get to know each other better and have a real outing/discussions among Anime fans, so various meeting were held at place like Rifles Square, A&W, Star Kabab, Pizza Hut, American Burger, Boomers etc.
How did Team Otaku became Mazecity?
Team Otaku used to be on a free forum which used to have huge downtime, lacked features and had horrible support so we decided to buy our own server since we grew a lot as community. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the database of our old forum so we had to start the new forum from scratch. Since the forum was new, so was the site and name we decided to adopt a new name since many people had long-term complains with term ‘Otaku’ (wiki) especially shinobi21 and many others voiced an strong opinion against it and rightfully so, as in Japanese context Otaku was literally slang and degretory term synonymous to freak, something which we were not and the Japanese version of the name was not considered while naming in the first place. So after brainstorming and polls of suggestion the community name was decided to be ‘Mazecity’ which is how you know it now.
